If you’ve ever visited Englewood, you know it’s not your typical city. Located along the Gulfcoast of Florida, Englewood is shared between two counties – Sarasota and Charlotte.
Englewood’s serenity and quietness is the primary attraction of this area. It has a population of about 19,332 as of 2020, clearly uncrowded, and the beaches have less congestion making them a great spot for tourists to visit.
Due to the low population, Englewood is also one of the best places to live. Thanks to its large space available, it has the suburban rural feel that allows people to build, buy or rent their own homes.
How’s Englewood After Hurricane Ian?
Englewood, being along the Gulfcoast, suffered damage from hurricane Ian. It did away with many mobile homes and businesses. A day after the hurricane you could tell that this was not your average hurricane with people’s houses and streets flooded, power lines down, and trash floating all over.
Now, despite this devastating experience, most residents here have rebuilt their homes again. Businesses that were affected are back in operation too.
People who have lived here for a long time said they’ve never seen such a hurricane and considered it a once-in-a-lifetime thing. However, despite the damage, there are a few houses that were standing amidst the hurricane chaos. This is a good sign for people who want to move or visit this town.
Englewood Accessibility
If you plan to visit Englewood, there are many routes to reach here. It is located about twelve miles south of Venice and is along State Road 776.
There are several airports around Englewood, but the closest one has to be Punta Gorda Airport in Charlotte County. There is also the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport which is about an hour and a half away from Englewood. Other nearby airports are in Fort Myers and Tampa.
Great Golf Courses and Parks
Englewood features wide and clean beaches with an array of activities. The fact that the crowds here are fewer allows you to enjoy coastal beaches freely.
Some water activities you can try while here include taking a snorkel tour, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboat rides. You can also rent a jet ski or try parasailing; Fishing is also a fun activity embraced by many Englewood residents.
There is the Stump Pass Beach State Park which is super serene with excellent terrain and tree stumps near the shoreline. Besides, it features a 1.3-mile hiking trail, allowing you to see different wildlife.
In addition, there is the Manasota Key Beach and Blind Pass Beach, where you can explore different items thrown by the sea to the shore. You can take a tour of the beach to collect the unique seashells and shark teeth. Further, these beaches also provide natural habitats for different animals.
Englewood is also known for its great bird watching. It features different varieties, including ducks and Florida birds.
Besides the fantastic flora and fauna, there are about eight golf courses that will keep you busy on days when you don’t feel like going to the beach.
The City Has Something for Everyone
From magnificent hotels to serene beaches and amazing recreational facilities, Englewood is also homey. It gives you an interesting mix of old and new. This place still developed despite having fewer people, and you cannot resist its affordability.
