Background of the Sarasota Jungle Gardens

A trip to the Sarasota Jungle Gardens is like taking a step back. David Breed Lindsay, intending to establish a botanical garden, purchased some land in the early 1930s. The presence of a subtropical jungle made the concept appear plausible. He partnered with a man named Pearson Conrad, who believed in the same thing he did, and the two created something extraordinary.

They felt they were on the right track because Conrad already had a garden nursery next to theirs. People started to take note once they added more vegetation and planned lakes, exotic vegetation, and trees. The garden’s owners instituted a fee to turn it into a popular tourist destination.

The garden has always been run by the same family that used to live there. They started bringing in exotic birds and other creatures soon after the purchase, and it quickly became one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Sarasota.

What the Jungle Gardens Has to Offer

Birdsong, chirps, squawks, and screeches can be heard as soon as visitors leave the Welcome Center and enter the park, but so can children’s laughter. You can stroll through beautiful gardens, watch wildlife, reptiles, bird exhibitions, different pets and feed some animals. Children can run around and climb in specific locations, and a fort with a watchtower was built just for them.

At lunchtime, visitors can relax in the shade of the pond’s big fountain while watching the orange koi float leisurely. Flamingo Café offers a variety of lunch options, including some healthier selections like salads and wraps.

As you make your way around the park, you’ll cross a butterfly garden filled with native flowers and plants that thrive in Florida’s climate. If you keep walking along the route, you’ll be able to cool yourself under the palm trees and other native greenery and even come across some stone arches.

Live Entertaining Shows

Every day, people can enjoy shows that teach them something new while entertaining them with birds and reptiles. There is a Q&A session following each show so that you and your children can learn a great deal about the creatures they have seen. You can pet and have your pciturre taken with the animals you see on display. It’s pretty cool.

The exotic birds in the Jungle Bird Show are a lot of fun to watch as they perform various tricks. These birds are not only fascinating to watch, but they are also exceptionally bright. Get your picture taken while holding or petting one after the show.

The exhibit of Wildlife Wonders is incredible. From kookaburras to hissing cockroaches, there is a wide variety of animals to study with your children. There’s no way to predict which species will be highlighted next; they all take turns.
