Drum Circle on Siesta Key

What started as a small gathering in the mid-90s has transformed into one of the most famous and beloved events in Siesta Key. Back in the day, the Drum Circle was just a handful of people coming together to drum, dance, and celebrate the full moon.

Over time, word spread, and the crowd grew; groups like the Ringling School of the Arts, local churches, and members of the Native Descended Nation embraced the celebration and became a part of it.

The location shifted from the Beach Access Point 8, because of the new crowd and migrated to its current location, south of the main pavilion of Siesta Beach, where it continues to thrive.

And now, every Sunday without fail, the beach comes alive with this incredible ritual just an hour before sunset. You won’t even need a map to find the location of the fiesta; just follow the rhythm and you’ll be led right to it.

What to Expect When You Arrive

The Drum Key on Siesta Keys isn’t some small hidden affair at all. It’s a huge deal, one of the top things to do around here, and hundreds of people show up every Sunday.

This is a full-on beach party of sound and movement. The second your feet hit the sand, you’ll feel the energy, the pulse of the drums, and the kind of vibe that makes you forget where you are for a second.

Look around, and you’ll see every kind of person you can imagine. Barefoot kids racing across the sand. Old couples dancing like they’ve been coming here forever. College students, street performers, travelers who just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

There’s always at least one belly dancer, someone spinning fire, and a guy who looks like he’s been doing this for a hundred years, completely lost in the music. No matter who you are or where you’re from, you’re welcomed with open arms. No one cares how you dance, how you move, or if you can keep a beat.

How to Participate

The best part about the Siesta Key Drum Circle is that it’s not just for spectators but for everyone. If you have a drum, bring it. If you don’t, just clap. Stomp your feet, sway, or just close your eyes and let the music do its thing. No one’s judging. The whole point is to be part of it, however, that looks for you.

Some people stay the whole time, while others pop in for a bit, and then head to a bar for a drink. There’s no rush. No rules. Just the music, the beach, and the sunset.

There is no entrance fee, so you can simply arrive as you please. Parking can get crazy, so get there a little early. If you like, you can pack some snacks and drinks, but remember to clean up after yourself. And if you’re here during the cooler months, maybe pack a light sweater. But the most important thing is for you to bring your energy.
