The first resident who permanently resided on the island was George Bean, who lived in the area that currently comprises Anna Maria city. After Mr. Bean passed away in 1898, his son George W. Bean became its owner. He formed a partnership with Charles Roser, formed a company, called the Anna Maria Beach company and began development by building houses, sidewalks, streets and a public water system.
